The all-volunteer Lopez Island Fireworks Crew is already busily assembling the parts of this years hand-crafted, locally designed pyrotechnics display. We are continuing to refine the Japanese-style fireworks presentation that has been a hallmark of the Lopez Display for over twenty years now. Our style is unique because we showcase individual fireworks effects such as Revolving Dragons, Purple Cycas Blooms, and Nishiki Kamuro, whereas other fireworks shows simply mix effects together into a homogenized mass of light and noise. We believe in crafting a distinctive, celebratory 23 minutes of sky-art for you every year, and we are thankful to have such a discerning audience who can appreciate the difference. This year we have 15 sets of top-notch effects cued up, including the Lopez Classic Crossing Crossettes, effects that were custom designed on Lopez, have garnered numerous awards in international fireworks competitions, and can't be found anywhere else. Only the best for the celebration of our independence, island-style! Invite your friends and family and we hope that your enjoy!

People often wonder how the Lopez Fireworks Display gets put together. To start, planning for next year's show generally begins on July 5th. We critically examine the pyrotechnic performance, watching and re-watching frame-by-frame analytical footage, and make decisions for the following year's design. By the end of summer we have the show for next year completely designed, at which time we order the majority of our pyrotechnic materials from a custom workshop. During winter and early spring a crew of volunteers is maintaining, modifying, and creating equipment that is used in the display, and preparing pyrotechnic materials as well. By March or April the shipment of completed fireworks arrives. As the weather gets fine, our crew is busy on the weekends with fusing, wiring, testing, preparing equipment, and getting well organized for the flurry of intense activity that occurs right around the 4th of July. Beginning 7-10 days before show-time, our volunteer crew is working every day, dawn till dusk carefully performing the final assembly of the show. Come 10:30pm sharp, every year, the first button gets pushed and the show begins!
